The colours of beautiful Lake Alaušas
Clean water, unspoiled nature, a sand beach, well-kept swimming areas, and paths for long, romantic walks: this is the gift of quiet, tranquillity, water and fresh air that Utena’s Lake Alaušas – one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Lithuania – gives to travellers. Perched on a peninsula of the lake, Bikuškis Manor goes back to the Radziwiłł and Ogiński nobles, while the town of Sudeikiai located on its shores is not only a good place to find an authentic place to stay, but also to arrange a canoeing or boating trip or rent a paddle boat or a raft. Right next to Lake Alaušas, you will find a diving centre, picnic areas, playgrounds and outdoor gym equipment, as well as a campsite. In summer, Alaušas becomes Aukštaitija’s centre of attraction. After all, water-based tourism is almost a national sport in Lithuania. And don’t leave without tasting Lake Alaušas fish soup, Aukštaitian pancakes, or the salted European cisco that is so popular among the locals.
